Announcing Conrad's 2019-20 Season

Pianist and composer Conrad Tao’s 2019-2020 season builds on his growing presence in the major performance halls and orchestras of the US, with highly-anticipated recital debuts at Carnegie Hall (November 20) and the LA Philharmonic (March 10).

Conrad returns to the Cleveland Orchestra on May 15 for a program inspired by jazz and Dadaist art film, performed with pianist Aaron Diehl. The 12th Annual Celebrate Asia concert (March 8 at Seattle Symphony) puts the spotlight on the pianist and composer, who performs his piece Oneroi along with Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

On his new album American Rage (out October 25 on Warner Classics), Conrad explores the history and resonance of the American labor movement through works by Frederic Rzewski, Aaron Copland, and Julia Wolfe.

Conrad maintains his deeply collaborative approach throughout the season, in continuing performances of his evening-length work More Forever with dancer Caleb Teicher at the Celebrity Series of Boston (January 30 - February 1), Philharmonic Society of Orange County (January 7), as well as in the pair’s duo collaboration, Counterpoint, at the Library of Congress (April 4) and Princeton University (April 7). Further partnerships include performing with longtime collaborator Charmaine Lee at the opening event of the Resonant Bodies Festival in NYC (September 3). In Spring 2020, Conrad tours the US, performing chamber music program with violinist Stefan Jackiw and cellist Jay Campbell, as the Junction Trio.

Highlights from Conrad’s 2018-19 season included the world premiere of his new work Everything Must Go, which was commissioned and performed by the New York Philharmonic. Conrad inaugurated the Philharmonic’s Nightcap series with artist Charmaine Lee and dancer Caleb Teicher, with whom he also premiered the new evening-length multidisciplinary work, More Forever. In February, Conrad made his LA Opera debut in the West Coast premiere of David Lang's new work, the loser. In Summer 2019, Conrad made his debuts with the New York Philharmonic at Bravo! Vail, The Cleveland Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
